"Okay, You Caught Me..." - How To "Try Out" Your Business Idea

Step One: Take action. Step Two: Repeat Step One. The End. Happy Trying!

Ha ha! If only it was that easy, right? There is so much to think about when seriously considering a business idea that you have. The first, second and third questions in my mind were, “How do I get started? But, how though? What should I be doing next?” I researched other business owner’s successes and their answers were personalized and vague…and it should be. There is not one way to be successful. Their story was just that, their storytheir success story. I realize that the moments right now will be a part of my own success story. You already have or will have your own success story too, but we have to start somewhere. Right? But where?

Where to start…Where. To. Start. Hmm?

  1. If you haven’t already, first, check out my previous blog about startups. It lists some important tips to consider when starting a business and could definitely be helpful to you as you build a foundation.

  2. Second, you are going to have to deal with the top reason so many fail or don’t even get started: FEAR. One of the ways to combat fear is to have a plan in mind. Write your current plan down and then, if you want, find someone trustworthy and wise with whom to discuss it. You don’t have to discuss every single detail, but sometimes it is helpful to get preliminary insight about your future customers and how that particular industry functions.

  3. Once you are semi-ready, try the idea out with whatever strengths or limitations you have. You are going to have to start somewhere. It will never be perfect, so don’t continue to delay and wait until everything is pulled together just right. This is your testing or trial & error period, which may continue even after you feel established. Do your best not to be too afraid to get caught trying.

  4. Lastly, figure out what will keep you motivated and moving forward while on your way to your own success. Almost everyone with a business idea is super excited in the very beginning. There will be aspects of business development that will not be fun, nor exciting. Reminding yourself why you started, reading or watching motivational materials and setting a “work schedule” could be ways to keep you interested when the task at hand isn’t.

:) :) :)

It’s going to take many moments of reflection to piece together your business idea, but you can do it! Just continue to invest time in consuming bite-sized goals on a weekly-basis, at least. Don’t get too caught up in all of the details, before starting anything, but do get caught trying.

Now, Happy Trying! Happy Doing!
